Evangelical churches across Colombia have launched a coordinated relief effort after an earthquake struck the country on 10 August 2026. The Evangelical Confederation of Colombia (CEDECOL) has activated a structured solidarity and support mechanism to assist churches, families, and communities affected by the disaster. The organisation reports that many families remain in urgent need of support and assistance in the wake of the emergency.
CEDECOL is Colombia's national evangelical alliance and a member of the global evangelical family served by the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA). WEA has announced its support for the people of Colombia and declared that it is standing alongside CEDECOL and the affected communities. WEA Crisis Director Dirk Gerlach met with CEDECOL leaders by video call to hear about conditions on the ground, discuss needs, and explore ways to support the ongoing response.
The relief effort will be coordinated by Pastor Héctor Pardo together with Pastor Lyda Arias de García, the president of CEDECOL, working with churches in the affected areas and relevant authorities. Where supply, safety, and availability permit, CEDECOL plans to purchase food and essential goods directly from affected or neighbouring regions — an approach that meets urgent needs while supporting local businesses and reducing transport and storage costs. The confederation will keep records of contributions, purchases, and aid distributed to ensure transparency and accountability. WEA has invited the global evangelical family to pray for those impacted and for the churches responding on the ground.
