The Maata Näkyvissä Northern Dimension gospel music event drew around 2,000 visitors when it was held at the Hannulanmäki ice hall in Tornio on 15 August 2026. The turnout marked continued growth from the 1,700 who attended the previous year. More than 20 youth church groups took part, coming from across the Oulu region and from the Haparanda congregation just across the border in Sweden.
The event began in 2024 at the wish of youth workers in Tornio, who wanted young people in Northern Finland to have their own gospel music gathering. It is organised by the Tornio congregation together with the Maata Näkyvissä festival, the Puisto Live agency, and the youth ministry of the Finnish Lutheran Evangelical Association. Around 200 volunteers helped run the day, roughly half of them local young people.
The one-day programme featured young performers from Tornio alongside leading names in Finland's gospel scene, as well as Bible teaching, dance, and personal testimonies on themes such as loneliness. Producer Samuli Luomaranta said the event has been a great blessing and that its continued growth shows Northern Finland needs a gathering like this at this point in the year. The Northern Dimension event now opens the festival autumn, which culminates in the 41st Maata Näkyvissä festival in Turku on 20–22 November.
