The Church of the Brethren in the Czech Republic (Církev bratrská) will bring its BrodFEST festival into the centre of Havlíčkův Brod on Saturday, 26 September, with a full day of free public talks, live music and discussion. The open-air programme on Havlíčkovo náměstí is designed for the general public, and admission to the entire day is free.
Církev bratrská is one of the Czech Republic's historic free evangelical churches, serving a small minority in one of Europe's most secular societies. Taking a festival into the town square is a deliberate act of public witness, moving conversation about faith into everyday civic life rather than confining it to church buildings.
The day opens with a reflection by Roman Toušek and a concert by the band KAMIS, followed by three seminars on themes of Czech identity, faith and human dignity. David Novák, chairman of the Church of the Brethren's Council, will ask whether Czechs are “really a nation of easy-goers”; pastor Jan Šeda will speak on “More than religion”; and Professor Jan Hábl, a Comenius scholar, will address the question of human worth.
