The Evangelical Free Church of the Philippines (EFCP) has been pursuing one of the most ambitious church multiplication targets in the free evangelical world: the "200x2026" initiative, aiming to plant 200 new congregations between 2022 and 2026 across the archipelago.
Dozens of church planters and pastors participate regularly in gatherings oriented around this vision. The EFCP's Department of Church Planting has been running Basic Training programmes — including a session planned for Ormoc, Leyte — and mapping communities across all the Philippines where EFCP churches do not yet exist. The aim is not simply to count new plants but to identify unreached areas strategically and deploy planters intentionally.
The Philippines presents both opportunity and complexity for church planting. Its geography — more than 7,600 islands — means that communities can be isolated, that language and culture shift significantly from island to island, and that even established denominations have uneven reach. The EFCP's mapping work addresses this directly, aiming to ensure that the 200-church vision is geographically distributed, not clustered in urban centres.
The EFCP is an IFFEC member and maintains partnership with both the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) and the Evangelical Free Church of Canada (EFCC), which supports the EFCP through its ServeBeyond programme. ReachGlobal, the EFCA's global mission arm, has been active in the Philippines through crisis response and community development alongside church planting — including supporting recovery and new church starts following fires and natural disasters.
The free evangelical tradition took root in the Philippines through North American mission work and has developed its own indigenous identity. The EFCP now plants churches that are genuinely Filipino in leadership, language, and expression.
