ReachGlobal — the global mission arm of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) — currently operates in five African countries: Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Malawi, and Tanzania. The work in each context varies in form and maturity, but the underlying goal is consistent: establishing churches where the gospel has not yet taken root, and developing local leaders who can multiply those churches without ongoing Western dependency.
In the DR Congo, the long-standing partnership with the Communauté Évangélique de l'Uélé (CECU) — a movement of more than a thousand congregations planted through a century of EFCA mission — remains the flagship. The Congo Consortium connects North American churches to this partnership through financial support, prayer, and short-term teams.
In Cameroon, ReachGlobal teams work in partnership with the Evangelical Church of Cameroon (EEC-Cam), a major Protestant body with more than two million members rooted in the covenant-mission tradition. In Kenya, Malawi, and Tanzania, ReachGlobal is engaged in newer partnerships, with an emphasis on discipleship training, leadership development, and working through and alongside existing African church structures rather than planting parallel ones.
The African dimension of ReachGlobal's work takes on added significance as IFFEC prepares for its first-ever assembly on African soil in Kenya in September 2026. Several of the African movements that ReachGlobal has helped to establish or strengthen are part of the broader free evangelical family — whether or not they currently hold formal IFFEC membership.
