Rev. Botrus Mansour, Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), concluded a visit to New York this week aimed at deepening the organisation's engagement with the United Nations. Meeting with the WEA's UN advocacy team and officials at UNICEF, Mansour declared that the WEA is "keenly interested in contributing to lessening human suffering" and reaffirmed the alliance's commitment to bringing an evangelical perspective into global multilateral forums.
The WEA, which represents an estimated 600 million evangelicals across more than 140 countries, maintains a permanent advocacy presence at the UN in New York. During the visit, Mansour and the team — led by Acting Permanent Representative Dr. Jason Pope and Advocacy Director Dr. Kyle Wisdom — reviewed the 2026 strategic plan and assessed progress ahead of the upcoming UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), where the WEA will continue its engagement on issues including human trafficking and religious freedom.
As part of the HLPF programme, the WEA hosted a side event titled "From Commitment to Action: Urban Solutions to Human Trafficking in Liberia and Sierra Leone." Discussions at UNICEF focused on ongoing collaborative work and prospective new partnerships. Mansour grounded the advocacy push theologically, stating that Christians must contribute to human values because "we believe and cherish God-given value to human beings, any human beings, as created in His image and likeness."
