Rev. Dr. Steve Wong will join the Evangelical Covenant Church’s denominational team on 1 October as part-time coordinator of adult discipleship. He will serve on the Make and Deepen Disciples team, where he will develop and lead discipleship resources, programmes and initiatives for adults. Wong brings twenty-five years of experience in adult ministry to the role.
Wong is the founding pastor of Grace Community Covenant Church in Los Altos, California, the Covenant’s first Asian American church plant. He holds a master of divinity from Talbot School of Theology and a doctorate in clinical psychology from Rosemead School of Psychology, both at Biola University, and has served on the Board of the Ordered Ministry and the Covenant Asian Pastors Association. His appointment also secures the continuation and integration of Crescendo, the denomination’s discipleship ministry for people aged sixty and older.
“The Crescendo team has been an innovative source of resources for discipleship for those who are sixty and older,” Wong said, adding that he is “excited to bring that sense of passion and creativity into developing a vision for lifelong discipleship.” Rev. Dominique Gilliard, senior director of discipleship, evangelism and justice, said Wong “has a heart for adult discipleship, extensive pastoral experience, and a passion for the gospel of Jesus Christ.” “He will help us expand and enhance our adult discipleship offerings,” Gilliard said.
