The Association for South Sudan, a Czech Christian nonprofit linked to Church of Brethren congregations, runs a "holistic mission" in one of the world's youngest and most conflict-scarred nations, meeting spiritual and practical needs together. Hundreds of thousands of South Sudanese live as refugees in camps in neighbouring Uganda, including the Lamwo area, with little prospect for the future.
The association's work rests on several pillars: training church leaders, running two health centres, supporting orphaned children, and building a holistic mission centre combining a primary school, Bible school, orphanage and clinic. Because of the fragile security situation in South Sudan, part of the infrastructure is being built across the border in northern Uganda.
