Around a hundred children turned the Kronberg forum near Frankfurt into a brightly decorated world of discovery for the Movini World Explorers Festival, the children's mission event run by Allianz-Mission, the mission agency of the Bund Freier evangelischer Gemeinden (FeG), Germany's Free Evangelical Churches.
Under the motto "Heart and Hand — because Jesus helps", the day introduced the children to the way missionaries work around the world, telling people about Jesus and helping them in practical ways. The programme mixed celebration with geography: a live link took the children to Paraguay, where missionary Linah Mencke had risen at 5:30 in the morning local time to speak to them, and later a "world safari" let them meet missionaries at stations devoted to different countries.
At those stations the children met Carsten and Iris Berners, who introduced Japanese culture and a greeting in Japanese; Dominik Seeger, who took them to Spain and the Canary Islands with a stop for football; and Vanessa and Johanna, who presented Tanzania and the Philippines. The relief agency Auslandshilfe showed how "packages for life" are packed and personalised with pictures and greetings, and the seafarers' mission explained its work to the young visitors.
Allianz-Mission is the mission arm of the Bund FeG, a union of more than 500 free evangelical congregations in Germany that works closely with partner churches and mission fields on several continents. The festival is designed to give children a first, concrete picture of that worldwide network — and of how the churches they know at home are connected to it.
