In June 2025, the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Free Evangelical Churches (IFFEC) issued a public statement titled A Call for Peace, Dignity, and Reconciliation, addressing the multiple armed conflicts affecting IFFEC member federations and their surrounding communities.
The statement called on political leaders around the world to pursue just peace agreements and to treat all people — regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or religion — with dignity. It affirmed that Christians share a global responsibility that transcends national interest, and that the wars and conflicts of the present moment cannot be approached only through the lens of any single nation's perspective.
Significantly, the statement also directed words inward, to the IFFEC family itself. It called on free evangelical congregations to become and remain "places of reconciliation" — communities that welcome people across national divides, model the unity of the body of Christ in contexts of political and social fracture, and resist the temptation to baptise nationalist narratives with religious language.
The free evangelical tradition has historically been marked by a suspicion of state-church entanglement — the same conviction that produced the free-church commitment to believers'-church ecclesiology also tends to produce a wariness about uncritical alignment with national power. IFFEC's statement reflects that heritage: a global body of national churches, speaking to political leaders and to their own members, in the name of a Lord whose kingdom is not nationally bounded.
