Rather than treating newcomer churches as guests requiring hospitality, he proposes "reverse missiology": recognising these communities as missionaries bringing spiritual renewal to societies where established Christianity is in decline.
Lehtonen notes that migration has overtaken traditional missions as the primary force reshaping global Christianity. Partnerships between established and newcomer churches, he argues, only succeed when they are genuinely reciprocal — when the Western church is willing to receive as well as give, and when institutional structures can flex rather than demand assimilation.
